The much loved St Christopher’s Place is welcoming; Hoppers! Hoppers menu is inspired by Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu. They offer everything Sri Lankan from family feasts to small taster menus for those that are new to this cuisine! It’s located next door to Patty & Bun on James Street and is officially OPEN as of the evening of the 12th of September 2017. We strongly recommend a visit!
The St. Christopher’s Place menu is centred around Hoppers’ namesake dish, a bowl shaped pancake made from fermented rice batter and coconut milk. Keep a look out on St. Christoper’s Instagram for foodie snaps coming soon!
This restaurant has two floors, the ground being flooded with natural light from the outside, comfy seating and takes walk ins for those spontaneous lunch moments! The lower ground floor has a cocktail bar where many Tiki cocktails will be created (and drunk) as well as 4 private vaults that are available to book.
These can hold a maximum of 8 people in each where you can enjoy a more intimate Hoppers dining experience. Inside these vaults, diners can experience a tasty Sri Lankan feast, taking inspiration from traditional Sri Lankan family meals.
Due to popularity of their other restaurant in Soho, Hoppers offer a Quidini service where you can leave your name and have a wander through the rest of St. Christopher’s Place while you wait!
The interior is inspired by the Jungle Modernist movement associated with late Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa and his notion of transporting the outside Sri Lankan landscape into the modern home. This is seen through the native Sri Lankan masks on display throughout the restaurant and the modern seating arrangements and lighting. Traditional Sri Lankan patterns are scattered throughout the restaurant with a clean, monochromatic palette, hints of lime and dark timber.
